Korry is launching its Opticon low-profile cockpit control technology for purchase by aircraft manufacturers, it was announced today by company President Dan McFeeley. The new cockpit technology features a digital interface for weight savings, which reduces fuel consumption.
"Korry is excited to let our customers know we are doing something unique and innovative to reduce fuel costs," said McFeeley. "Our Opticon low-profile technology helps manufacturers design new-generation aircraft from the inside out to cut fuel use." McFeeley noted that Korry engineers estimate the Opticon technology offers a weight savings of more than 50 percent over conventional cockpit switching systems now in use.
Besides a direct weight reduction in the cockpit, Opticon technology's digital interface minimizes the need for wiring and its associated weight throughout the aircraft. In addition, the compact and flexible configuration of Opticon solutions allows engineers to optimize cockpit shape and fuselage profile for lower air resistance, also improving fuel efficiency.
