Holt Integrated Circuits announced today two new development kits for its latest discrete-to-digital sensor ICs. The ADK-8428 and ADK-8428-R kits demonstrate the features of HI-8428 and HI-8428-R, octal discrete sensing devices with individually configurable channels and SPI interface. HI-8428 and HI-8428-R are drop-in replacements for DEI1282 and DEI1284 respectively, and are compliant with the Airbus specification ABD0100H. The devices have fixed GND/Open thresholds of 4.5V and 10.5V and Open/Supply thresholds of 6.0V and 12.0V.

The ADK-8428 and ADK-8428-R boards contain a 16-bit Freescale MCU which demonstrates typical 4-wire SPI interface to the discrete-to-digital IC. An included CD with example source code provides an easy path for customers to develop their own software. The C-language demo program provides console output via the MCU UART for a PC running any terminal emulation program. Displayed messages and menu-driven PC keyboard input interactively demonstrate device configuration and operation.

Each Evaluation Board has two mounted discrete-to-digital devices so users can evaluate daisy-chained SPI operation. Using this feature, a single MCU SPI port can communicate with multiple 8-channel devices to expand the number of sensing channels. Board-mounted LEDs display high/low states for two 8-channel DIP switches that represent remote sensor/switch banks.

“All Holt's development kits come with a complete set of hardware and software, including source code,” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt. “Our customers appreciate immediate “out-of-the-box” evaluation of device features and simple reference designs that accelerate project development.”

All kits are available immediately from Holt and may be requested directly or through Holt's website.
