Rockwell Collins has introduced the first airworthy, stand alone Blu-ray Disc playersfor business jets. The player will be available beginning in fall 2009.

"Offering full 1080p video playback, along with the on-line, interactive capabilities of the Blu-ray standard, this new player is the latest example of Rockwell Collins' commitment to bringing the latest entertainment and connectivity innovations to the business jet cabin"
The new Rockwell Collins Blu-ray disc player is fully compliant with the BD-Live specification (also known as BD Profile 2.0) as outlined by the Blu-ray Disc Association. BD-Live supports the ability to connect the player directly to the Internet for accessing interactive features and supplemental movie content.
The player provides 1080p high-definition Blu-ray movie playback with surround sound, and is backward compatible with standard definition DVDs and audio CDs. It will be offered as standard and/or optional equipment on all Rockwell Collins VenueTM cabin management systems.
