UV laser markable cables: AXON' offers new solutions for aeronautics

AXON' Cable has enlarged its range of products with UV laser markable extruded PTFE wires, MIL-W-22759/11/12/22/23, which particularly meet the requirements of aircraft cabling.

Up to now, manufacturers in the aeronautics industry who needed laser markable PTFE wires were only able to obtain taped wires. Extruded PTFE is an insulating material which perfectly fits to wires with a simple construction.

Other significant advantage: this solution is very economical compared to taped versions. Moreover, the formulation of the insulating material developed by AXON' allows a higher contrast of the jacket colour, which improves the readability of the ultra-violet laser marking.

Advantages of the ultra violet laser marking:

The marking of electrical cables with ultra violet marking offers the aeronautics industry many advantages such as:

-suppression of marking sleeves on wires which means weight and volume reduction of the on-board wiring looms

-no risk of thermal and mechanical alteration of insulating materials, contrary to CO2 laser marking.

Markable wires: a wide range of products:

The development of materials sensitive to marking enables AXON' to also offer PTFE taped wires with more complex constructions, in addition to UV laser markable extruded FEP wires with constructions based on the most common aeronautics MIL standards (MIL-DTF-27500, M-W-22759/11/12/22/23). AXON' is presently finishing the qualification of its OASIS (Optimised Aerospace Insulation System) taped wires and cables following to DEFSTAN61/12/33-008 equivalent to MIL-W-22759/87. The wires have been designed to resist the 'wet arc tracking' phenomenon.
