Pratt & Whitney signs agreement with Volvo Aero Norge for F135 engine work

On Tuesday, Pratt & Whitney and Volvo Aero Norge signed an agreement to manufacture a critical engine component for the F135 propulsion system powering the F35 Lightning II. This agreement, combined with previous agreements signed with the company, have a potential value of more than US$700 million in production over the life of the program "We are proud to place this critical work with Volvo Aero Norge who are known for their commitment to quality, delivery and technology innovation," said Ed O'Donnell, director of international programs and business development for Pratt & Whitney.

Pratt & Whitney signed a letter of intent with Volvo Aero Norge to manufacture diffuser cases for the F135 engine. The diffuser case diffuses and regulates the speed of airflow in the engine allowing the combustor to work most effectively.

"Volvo Aero Norge is very happy to receive this commitment from Pratt & Whitney for the F135 Diffuser Case," said Odd Tore Kurverud, President of Volvo Aero Norge. This agreement demonstrates the continued industrial benefits from Pratt & Whitney, now on the Joint Strike Fighter.

"This agreement also illustrates Pratt & Whitney's ongoing commitment to promoting business in Norway," O'Donnell said.

Volvo Aero Norge also supports Pratt & Whitney's F119 engine, powering the F22 Raptor, and the F100, powering the F15 and F16. They are also partnered with Pratt & Whitney supporting the commercial engine business.
