Cobham receives Inmarsat Type Approval for SwiftBroadband

12/05/2009

Press releaseIssued by Cobham SATCOM and published as received — not written by Airframer’s editors.

Cobham has received Inmarsat Type Approval for two new SwiftBroadband (SBB) products that set new standards in size, weight and power consumption, making them suitable for even the smallest business aircraft.

These products – a single channel class 6 SBB satellite data unit (radio) and the IGA-5001 (an Intermediate Gain Antenna enabling class 7 SBB services) – complement Cobham SATCOM's extensive range of market leading SBB approved high gain antennas, such as the HGA-7001, HGA-7000,  HGA-6000 and HGA-6500, in use by numerous air transport aircraft and business jets. When combined, these products enable a full range of connectivity options to aircraft, including internet, email, VPN, telephone and fax service.

Additional type approvals for a dual channel class 6 and single channel class 7 SDU are in process, and are expected by the end of June 2009.

Cobham SATCOM, part of Cobham's Avionics and Surveillance division, is a leading supplier of fixed and mobile satellite communications equipment solutions for the air, land and sea markets.
