Textron Inc. has decided to suspend the Hemisphere program, for which the Silvercrest engine developed by Safran Aircraft Engines was selected.
The initial contract between Cessna (Textron Aviation) and Safran Aircraft Engines is therefore terminated, with no financial impact for both parties.
If the couple aircraft / engine does not reach, to date, all of its objectives, the development of the engine Silvercrest has, for its part, realized for 12 months the expected progress. The results of the ground tests of the new high-pressure compressor demonstrated a level of performance higher than expected. Additional tests are planned shortly to confirm the improvements made to the engine and to finalize the validation process for its performance and durability.
Safran Aircraft Engines will continue to use the Silvercrest as an R & T platform and will keep Textron Inc. informed of the engine's progress, giving it an opportunity to re-evaluate the situation.
