ZEVA, a pioneer in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, announces Argon, a new class of personal vertical aircraft.

The two seat Argon aircraft is based on an existing airframe that is known in the industry for unsurpassed flight safety record and desirable flight characteristics. Configured as a lift-plus-cruise design, it uses battery electric motors driving the lift propellers for vertical flight and an internal combustion engine for horizontal or “cruise” flight. The hybrid drive system is the best of both worlds providing true vertical takeoff with zero ground roll and a cruise range of more than 300 miles.

“We're ecstatic about the design. There's really nothing like it and it is very safe and also incredibly versatile.” Stephen Tibbitts, CEO of ZEVA Aero, said. “As a private pilot, I love this design for the many safety attributes it possesses. For example, if all systems fail, you can glide to the ground in a controlled manner. Additionally, it can be flown conventionally with a higher useful load and longer range.”

The versatile high-wing design is constructed with carbon composite fuselage and aluminum wings. The robust vehicle is right at home in the backcountry and suitable for operating out of areas with just a 60x60 foot clearing. The aircraft features a stick with integrated flight controls for vertical mode.

ZEVA's Argon aircraft is available for pre-order now with a refundable deposit. It is being made available as a fast-build kit with factory builder-assist and sold initially as an Experimental Amateur- Built category aircraft.
