Following the African Aerospace & Defence Expo (AAD), HENSOLDT South Africa (Pty) Ltd and General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) announce that HENSOLDT's new Argos-15 EO/IR gimbal will be offered as an additional mission-system configuration for GA-ATS' Do228 NXT special mission aircraft, expanding the platform's capabilities for a broader range of operational requirements.

Mission-ready 360° visibility with advanced object detection

The Argos-15, the successor to the operationally proven Argos-II, is mounted in front of the retractable main landing gear and therefore provides a clear 360° unobstructed view for the camera operator.

The new export-friendly, single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Argos-15 has a smaller footprint, combined with a new generation smart payload. It is equipped with next-generation multi-spectral sensors and built-in AI-powered object detection, classification and tracking capabilities. These enable sharper images in diverse environmental operating conditions, reduce operator workload and improve mission efficiency.

The Argos-15 is available with a variety of payload options, including long-range multi-spectral cameras, as well as a laser pointer, illuminator, range finder and designator for military missions.

Expanding the Do228 NXT's mission capabilities

The Do228 NXT can patrol the mission area for eight hours, flying as slowly as 78 kts and up to 260 kts to allow short ferry times. This enables the tactical flight officer (TFO) to maintain the optimal position for the mission and maximize the mission effectiveness. The Do228 is a field-proven design, serving customers for many years all around the world in versatile missions. The Do228 NXT continues its legacy and defines a true multi-mission aircraft with cutting-edge sensors to extend the mission capabilities to the next level.

Due to its unmatched short take-off and landing (STOL) capabilities in its class, the Do228 NXT can operate from short grass or unpaved runways, allowing it to access locations in especially harsh environments. These areas are beyond the operational reach of many aircraft in its class. This rugged and smart design is reflected in the Argos-15 as well, making the two a perfect match for ISR missions that require enhanced capability and performance. Combined, the Do228 NXT special mission aircraft and Argos-15 offer operators new, unprecedented mission capabilities.
