AEE Aircraft Electronic Engineering GmbH, a specialist in custom-designed and certifiable avionics for mission-critical aviation systems, announced a partnership with Horizon Aircraft, a Canadian aerospace company developing one of the first hybrid-electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.

As part of this new collaboration, AEE's MIAU 1000 avionics solution will be integrated into Horizon Aircraft's Cavorite X7 full-scale demonstrator aircraft as part of its powered lift control system.

MIAU 1000: Ruggedized Processing Power

The MIAU 1000 is a small, lightweight, and highly robust hardware platform. It is extremely versatile and can be deployed as a gateway computer, motor or actuator interface unit, data concentrator unit, or even as a flight control computer.

For VTOL and other aircraft manufacturers, the product offers crucial technical advantages:

– Compact Design: The MIAU 1000 was specifically designed for applications with strict Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints.

– High-Voltage Safety: Featuring individually isolated interfaces, the platform enables a secure connection between high-voltage systems and safety-critical avionics, a key factor for electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.

– Certifiable Reliability: The system is designed to meet various DO-160G categories and was developed in accordance with strict aviation standards of the AMC20-152A i. a w. DO-254 (up to DAL A) to guarantee maximum reliability in the most demanding environments.

Pioneers in Hybrid-Electric Air Mobility

Headquartered in Lindsay, Ontario, Horizon Aircraft is developing the Cavorite X7, a hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff and landing agility of a helicopter with the efficiency of a fixed-wing airplane.

The result is an aircraft that flies nearly twice as fast as a helicopter and is designed to operate in all-weather conditions that ground most rotorcraft.

The Cavorite X7 is built to deliver a faster, safer, and more efficient option for time-critical missions currently flown by helicopters, including emergency medical services, defence operations, and search-and-rescue.

The integration of AEE's MIAU 1000 platform will help Horizon Aircraft safely and efficiently process the complex, safety-critical control requirements of the electrical lift fans concealed within the wings, as well as the conventional propulsion systems.
