Aernnova performs Airbus Beluga XL first metal cut

On December 15th 2015 Aernnova cut the first frames of the WP70, the rear part of the Beluga XL fuselage in their facility in Tarazona, Spain. This work package will be the first one delivered to the Final Assembly Line early 2017 as the conversion process begins from the tail to the nose. These are the first of the total 2000 different parts included in the three work packages to be delivered. Manufacturing will take place in the different locations in Spain (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Tarazona, Toledo and Cadiz), whereas aerostructures mayor assemblies is expected in Aernnova Aeroestructuras Álava, starting in summer 2016, for Beluga XL MSN001. The Beluga XL was launched in November 2014 to address the transport capacity requirements between Airbus facilities in view of the A350 XWB ramp-up and other aircraft production rate increases. Based on the A330-200 Freighter with a large re-use of existing components and equipment, the Beluga XL will be powered with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines. The fleet of five Beluga XL aircraft will provide Airbus with a 30 percent extra transport capacity.
