Bombardier awards Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft final assembly to its Toronto site

Bombardier Aerospace today announced that final assembly of its new Global 7000 and Global 8000 business jets will take place at its manufacturing site in Toronto, Ontario.

"Our Toronto site employees have the knowledge and expertise required to assemble these two new business aircraft," said Steve Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "Their contribution and dedication to manufacturing world-class aircraft are instrumental in helping Bombardier expand its leadership position in the business aircraft market."

"The final assembly of the Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft will also build on the distinguished 83-year heritage of our Toronto site. Our partnership with the Canadian Auto Workers, Local 112 was key to bringing these work packages to Toronto, a site which has, throughout its history, played a role in making Canada a major player in the international aerospace industry," added Mr. Ridolfi.

Bombardier continues to evaluate options for the production support work package, which includes functions such as technical publications and procurement in support of the manufacturing program.

With roots dating back to 1928, upwards of 8,000 aircraft have been produced at the Toronto site, and its aircraft production heritage has been widely lauded. Bombardier's Toronto site currently manufactures wings for the Learjet 40 and Learjet 45 corporate jets and assembles the Global 5000 and Global 6000 business jets, as well as the Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner. Following final assembly, the majority of current production Global aircraft are flown to Bombardier's Global Completion Centre in Montreal to be outfitted with customer-specified exterior paint schemes, interiors and aircraft electronics.
