Cambium launches ApexFrame 5000, a high-temperature laminating film adhesive for demanding bonding applications

Press releaseIssued by Cambium, Inc..

Cambium, developer of advanced composites and specialty materials, today announced the launch of ApexFrame 5000, a phthalonitrile-based film adhesive engineered for high-temperature, non-structural bonding of polymer films and metallic foils.

ApexFrame 5000 delivers sustained operational performance up to 600°F (315°C), with short-duration performance up to 800°F (427°C), addressing a persistent gap in high-temperature adhesive systems: materials that can survive the most demanding thermal environments without the handling burden that typically comes with them. The system is solvent-free, room-temperature stable, and requires no freezer storage, reducing both logistics complexity and total cost of ownership for manufacturers.

"A customer came to us with a challenge that existing adhesive technologies couldn't solve: bonding performance in extreme thermal environments for demanding aircraft and drone applications," said Cambium CTO James Griffin. "By combining our materials expertise with a rapid development approach, we delivered ApexFrame 5000, a high-temperature laminating adhesive built for defense applications, that helps customers meet demanding performance requirements without compromising manufacturability."

The launch reflects Cambium's core operating model: taking a material from discovery through qualified production at speed and scale. ApexFrame 5000 moves through Cambium's integrated pipeline, discovery, product development, and manufacturing, unified under a single operating system, compressing a process that traditionally takes years into a matter of months.

Cambium's manufacturing footprint gives customers a direct path from formulation to production-ready material, without the handoffs and delays that come from working across separate suppliers for chemistry, qualification, and manufacturing. That integration is increasingly critical for customers in aerospace, defence, and space, where thermal extremes, tight qualification windows, and long-term reliability are all non-negotiable.

ApexFrame 5000 is available now as an unsupported film adhesive in standard roll widths of 12 in (300mm) and 38 in (965mm), with additional widths and carrier options available upon request.
