DDC-I announces ARINC-664 avionics network support for Deos certifiable real-time operating system

DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced the availability of ARINC-664 compliant driver and application support for the Deos™ safety-critical real-time operating system. The ARINC-664 driver complements DDC-I's existing AFDX solution, enabling Deos application programs to now communicate to avionics systems in airframes equipped with either variant of the powerful communications interface, including those from Boeing, Airbus, and a number of other airframe manufacturers.

AFDX (Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet) is a next-generation, aircraft data network developed for real-time fly-by-wire systems that implement the deterministic Ethernet interface standardized by ARINC Specification 664. These interfaces utilize a cascaded star topology that has the benefits of significantly reduced wire runs and thus enabling lower aircraft weight. The dual-redundant network also enhances reliability and provides guaranteed bandwidth, thereby delivering a high Quality of Service (QoS). DDC-I's library, device driver process, and interfaces enable application developers to have the ability to initialize, configure, and read/write data to any avionic system equipped with an AFDX or ARINC 664 network interface.

Deos has been used in hundreds of safety critical avionics applications on commercial and military aircraft. The time and space partitioned RTOS features deterministic real-time response and employs patented "slack scheduling" to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other certifiable safety-critical COTS RTOS. Built from the ground up for safety-critical applications, Deos is the only certifiable time and space partitioned COTS RTOS that has been created using RTCA DO-178B, Level A processes from the very first day of its product development. It also provides the easiest, lowest cost path of any COTS RTOS to DO-178B Level A certification, the highest level of safety criticality.
