Donaldson selected to supply rain repellent windshield visibility system on the Sukhoi SuperJet 100

Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Comnpany (NYSE:DCI), announced today that the company has been selected by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft as a tier one supplier to equip the SuperJet 100 aircraft with a Donaldson Rain Repellent™ system. According to Sukhoi, the company has over 170 orders for the Sukhoi SuperJet 100 airliner.

The Donaldson Rain Repellent system improves windshield visibility for SuperJet 100 pilots. When windshield wipers are not effective in heavy rain, the pilot flips a switch to deliver a calibrated quantity of rain repellent fluid. In seconds, visibility is restored. Donaldson's solution is an alternative to windshield coatings that have limited life and often result in optical distortion.

Donaldson optimized the nozzle design for the aircraft so the proper amount of fluid is dispersed uniformly on the windshield. Donaldson's Rain Repellent fluid is non-toxic, non-flammable and CFC free. The rain repellent fluid is fast acting and long lasting, with no build-up or visual distortion. And, the system is equipped with a visual gauge to notify the pilot of the fluid level and pressure.

The SuperJet 100, which is a medium-haul airliner capable of carrying 75-95 passengers, conducted its maiden flight in May 2008 and received its Interstate Aviation Committee certification in January 2011. European Aviation Safety Agency certification is expected in mid-2011. The first production SuperJet 100 performed its first commercial passenger flight from Yerevan to Moscow on April 21, 2011, which officially opened full entry into service and full-scale production of the aircraft.

Donaldson Rain Repellent systems are also currently installed on the Airbus A320 and A340 families, A350 XWB, A380 and the Dassault Falcon 7X. STC/PMA is available for the Boeing 737-100 to -500 models.
