Hamilton Sundstrand awarded Bombardier CSeries aircraft fire protection system

Bombardier Aerospace has selected Kidde Aerospace & Defense, a Hamilton Sundstrand business, to supply the Fire Protection System for the Bombardier CSeries commercial aircraft family. Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) .

The integrated Fire Protection System comprises advanced technology smoke detectors, fire detectors, environmentally friendly fire extinguishers and integrated control electronics.

"The system is an enhanced version of an integrated Kidde system in use on other Bombardier aircraft, providing the CSeries aircraft a light weight solution with low technical risk and proven reliability in service."

The CSeries aircraft integrated fire protection system will be primarily designed and manufactured at Kidde Aerospace & Defense's Wilson, N.C., facility.

Hamilton Sundstrand was previously selected by Pratt & Whitney to provide the control system -- including the electronic, fuel, pneumatic and thermal management systems -- for its PurePower(TM) family of engines for the Bombardier CSeries aircraft.

Hamilton Sundstrand's Kidde Aerospace & Defense unit provides fire protection and safety systems for commercial and military aviation and ground vehicle applications. For 90 years, Kidde has defined the state-of-the-art in fire protection and safety systems, through advances in detection, suppression, inerting and other protection technologies.
