L-3's GH-3900 Standby and FA2100 CVR/FDR selected by Bombardier for Global 7000 and 8000 aircraft

30/10/2012

Press releaseIssued by Acron Aviation (was L3Harris/L3 Aviation Recorders).

L-3 Aviation Products announced today that Bombardier has selected its GH-3900™ Electronic Standby Instrument System (ESIS) and the FA2100 Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) system for the Global 7000 and Global 8000 business jets.

"This is a perfect pairing of the industry's leading standby system and flight recorder products with the flagship line of Bombardier's business jets," said Ralph DeMarco, vice president of sales and marketing for L-3 Aviation Products. "We're looking forward to seeing these industry-leading aircraft, equipped with L-3 products, start rolling off the Bombardier assembly line beginning in 2016."

Certified to Level A software and hardware standards, the GH-3900 ESIS satisfies airworthiness requirements for almost any transport category fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft. Incorporating all important visual cues on a high-resolution, three-inch display, the instrument is a more precise and information-rich standby than traditional analog indicators. With a customizable layout, the GH-Series standby instruments can be modified to fit a wide range of primary avionics systems, giving pilots a familiar reference for flying the aircraft. Hardware enhancements include a variety of air data and heading input selections, as well as optional built-in accelerometers that provide external LRUs with relevant data.

The FA2100 CVR/FDR ensures compliance to the latest FAA, Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) and International Airworthiness requirements for recording Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) digital aircraft messages. The CVR system incorporates Recorder-Independent Power Supply (RIPS) capability, providing 10-minute emergency backup power to the CVR. The FDR includes high-speed data rate throughput capability to maximize the number of aircraft flight parameters that can be recorded and the sampling rates for each parameter. With this selection, L-3 retains its incumbent position as the single-source flight recorder supplier to Bombardier on its Global business jet program.
