Meggitt vibration technology boost for B737NG

Meggitt group company Vibro-Meter, Switzerland, the world leader in engine vibration monitoring technology, will provide its Advanced Airborne Vibration Monitor (AAVM) on all new Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft.

The AAVM, a Boeing, CFM International and Vibro-Meter venture, builds on the functionality provided by the Universal Engine Vibration Monitor previously supplied in the aircraft. This includes flight deck engine vibration indication and balancing features.

One advantage, however, is the AAVM's ability to predict engine bearing failure. It gives a pre-event bearing fault warning, reducing the chances of an in-flight shutdown.

"Our technologies are helping aircraft operators to predict engine component failure and to maximise the efficiency of their engines. This minimises fuel costs and reduces the environmental impact of their operation."

Vibro-Meter AAVM data can be downloaded via ACARS or by interrogation of the AAVM front panel. Retrofit on 737 classic and NG is at customer discretion.
