MiG-AT trainer jet's first flight with the new AL-55I engine

The MiG- AT trainer by the Russian Aircraft Corporation "MiG" performed today the first flight with the new AL-55I turbojet engine as part of its power plant. The flight was performed by RAC "MiG" test-pilot, Hero of Russia Oleg Antonovich.

The AL-55I engine is undergoing flight trials onboard the MiG-AT tail number 823. Along with Al-55I its power plant includes "Larzak" engine. Previously the MiG-AT has completed the test program with the two "Larzak" engines onboard. Since 27th June 2008 RAC "MiG" also conducts flight trials of the MiG-AT tail number 821 with the power plant of RD-1700 and "Larzak".

In the course of a 30-minute sortie performed at the altitude of 3,000 ? the power plant was tested at various operational modes. According to Vassily Shtykalo, Chief Designer & MiG-AT Program Director, the engine demonstrated excellent performance, all aircraft system operated in normal mode. Flight assignment was carried out in full.

The AL-55I engine is developed and produced by JSC «Saturn».
