New coating technologies

30/09/2008

Press releaseIssued by AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings.

In keeping with the global strategy of providing technical leadership in aerospace coatings, AkzoNobel is announcing the expansion of the Alumigrip® line of coatings designed specifically for the general aviation market segment.

"Consistent with the key industry drivers of chrome elimination, and cycle time reduction, the new Alumigrip products push general aviation coating technology forward to address these key concerns," commented Ranny Jones, General Aviation Market Manager for AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings.

Alumigrip® 4101 chrome free primer is a corrosion inhibiting epoxy primer formulated for application to conversion coated exterior surfaces in preparation for the application of the decorative topcoat. The product is  safer for the environment and provides to MRO's and FBO's with a low cost option for the reduction of chrome exposure, an important regulatory requirement.  Alumigrip®4101 is approved to Hawker Beechcraft specification BS178928.

Alumigrip® 4001 chrome free primer surfacer is a corrosion inhibiting sanding primer.  Formulated for application to reactivated process primers, Alumigrip® 4001 significantly reduces process time by providing, in one product, corrosion inhibition and the appearance benefits of a primer surfacer in preparation for the application of the decorative topcoat.  Alumigrip® 4001 may also be applied directly to conversion coated rivet lines, saving an extra step in process time.

The expanded family of Alumigrip® products also includes the advanced technology of Alumigrip® 4200 high solids topcoat, a buffable polyurethane topcoat providing premium gloss and superior DOI. Formulated to provide the most forgiving application parameters in high temperature and humidity conditions, this topcoat also provides the applicator with a wider application window and less re-work.  Due to it's low viscosity, Alumigrip®4200 HS sprays like a conventional topcoat making it the ideal product to meet the high gloss and DOI appearance expectations of sophisticated aircraft owners.

The Alumigrip® product range provides the applicator with a wide range of options to ensure the timely delivery of the most exciting aircraft finishes possible. Primer 10P8-11 is an extremely smooth corrosion inhibiting primer for structural and exterior applications and  10P30-8 is an easy sanding primer surfacer.  Alumigrip®AP and  Alumigrip®DC are fast drying topcoat systems formulated for accent colors and speed stripes, and Alumigrip®Foxfire Clear provides a brilliant, water-clear DOI appearance for executive aircraft interiors.

While color is ultimately the business of AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings, color selection is only the beginning of the process when implementing a new appearance. Once design decisions have been made, ANAC Technical Service and Support provides on-site consultation, along with extensive training programs for all personnel involved in the application of AkzoNobel products.
