Spirit AeroSystems to realign Boeing 787 Dreamliner wing component production to meet increasing demand

12/12/2011

Press releaseIssued by Spirit AeroSystems, Inc..

To meet unprecedented demand for its products and services, Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., [NYSE: SPR] announced plans to transition production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fixed leading edge composite wing component from Spirit's Tulsa, Okla., facility to Spirit's Malaysia facility. The realignment will allow Spirit to make more efficient use of its global manufacturing operations.

"Spirit is a global company, and our ability to move work between locations better positions us to create value for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders," said Alex Kummant, Spirit senior vice president of Oklahoma operations.

Francis Hiew, Spirit Malaysia managing director, said, "Spirit Malaysia has significant experience delivering high-quality composite assemblies, and the placement of the 787 fixed leading edge production in Malaysia is a natural extension of our expertise."

Oklahoma employees working on the 787 fixed leading edge will be transitioned to other programs to help meet increasing rates. Increased production is planned for all Spirit facilities.
