Turkish Primary and Basic Training Aircraft development program

The Aircraft, developed under Turkish Primary and Basic Training Aircraft Program, will be named HÜRKUS, after Vecihi Hürkus

The Turkish Primary and Basic Training Aircraft (HÜRKU?) Development Program became effective with the agreement signed between the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and TAI in March 2006. Within the five year long program; design, development, testing, verification, manufacturing and civil certification is going to be performed. The Aircraft will be designed and certified in accordance with European Aviation Safety Agency Certification Specification Part 23.

In order to give a name to the aircraft that is being developed, a questionnaire was realized among TAI's employees. As a result of the questionnaire, "HÜRKUS" got the highest number of votes. With the approval of SSM, during the second day of 8th International Defense Industry Fair (23 May 2007), the Turkish Primary and Basic Trainer Aircraft will be named After Vecihi HÜRKUS, who made significant contributions to the development of Turkish Aviation, at a ceremony to be held at TAI's stand No: F-120 at 10:45 hours. The ceremony, which will be honored by the Ministry of National Defense H.E. Vecdi Gönül, will also host Mr. Vecihi Hürkus' daughter Ms. Gönül Hürkus Sarman.

HÜRKUS is going to have night and day mission capability, tandem seating and a single turboprop engine. With this aircraft, general purpose, instrument flight, navigation and formation training phases will be realized. In order to realize these training stages; the aircraft shall have the standard aircraft systems, cabin pressurization, escape system, oxygen system.
