The development of a critical basic technology of application of ceramic composite materials (CCM) in jet-engine parts is launched by Rybinsk PJSC UEC – Saturn.
Critical technologies are being developed at UEC – Saturn that are essential for manufacturing of high-technology products competitive in global markets. These are additive technologies, ceramic and polymeric composite materials, robot laser beam welding and perforation, thermal barrier coatings.
Ceramic composite material is a multicomponent material based on a ceramic matrix with reinforced filling, operationally functional in the presence of high-temperature gases (more than 1,000 °C), guarantees long-term use of the parts without additional cooling. Ceramic material with its inherent property of fragile destruction is reinforced by continuous or disperse fibers ensuring high cracking resistance.
"Analysis of modern development of aviation and industrial gas-turbine engines reveals that creating competitive engines of new generation is impossible without development and wide application of ceramic composite materials," says Dmitriy Karelin, UEC – Saturn deputy general director for research and development. "Only by applying the high-temperature CCM we can address the problems of reducing weight and increasing fuel efficiency of engines. Creating reliable parts for a hot section of gas-turbine engines on the basis of such materials is a complex issue that specialists in many countries are trying to resolve. In extensive cooperation, we are conducting work on creating a critical basic technology covering the entire cycle of creating the jet-engine parts from ceramic composite materials."
As a part of United Engine Corporation, UEC – Saturn takes part in International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2017 held at Zhukovsky.
