Evolito set to supply electric motors for Flying Whales airship

The LCA60T airship will use 32 D250 motors for efficient, sustainable heavy-lift cargo transport with reduced emissions.

Evolito has partnered with Flying Whales to supply its D250 electric motors for the LCA60T airship, scheduled for its first test flight in 2027. The 200-metre-long aircraft will carry loads of up to 60 tonnes, offering a transport solution for oversized cargo in areas with limited infrastructure.

Flying Whales selected Evolito’s motors for their high power and torque density, with each airship using 32 units. The D250 weighs 13kg and delivers 240kW peak power, offering a power density of 18.5kW/kg. Evolito’s ability to scale production to meet Flying Whales’ forecasts was also a key factor in its selection.

Evolito received Design Organisation Approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority in 2023 and is working towards further certifications to reduce regulatory costs for Flying Whales.
