Embraer begins assembly of Austria’s first C-390

An official ceremony at Gavião Peixoto marked the start of production for the Austrian Air Force’s new multi-mission transport aircraft.

Embraer has officially begun structural assembly of Austria’s first C-390 Millennium at its Gavião Peixoto facility. Representatives from the Austrian government attended the launch ceremony, marking a major milestone in the aircraft’s production.

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, says: “We’re thrilled to start production of the first aircraft for Austria, and we look forward to delivering it to the Austrian Air Force soon.”

The C-390 Millennium can carry 26 tons of cargo, reach speeds of 470 knots, and operate in demanding environments, including unprepared runways. It supports cargo transport, medical evacuation, disaster response, search and rescue, and air-to-air refueling. The KC-390 variant is capable of both refuelling other aircraft and receiving fuel in-flight.

Since entering service in 2019 with the Brazilian Air Force, the C-390 has accumulated over 16,300 flight hours and has been selected by Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Sweden, Slovakia, and an undisclosed customer.
