Short-field operations and simplified piston engine management were key drivers in expanding the mission-ready P2012 aircraft configurations.
Tecnam has broadened its P2012 series by introducing two new Special Mission Platform variants: the P2012 Continental SMP and the P2012 STOL Continental SMP. Both add to the multi-mission capabilities of the aircraft and give operators the choice of Lycoming or Continental engines.
The standard Traveller Continental SMP simplifies engine management, increases range and endurance, and provides an intuitive piston setup. The STOL Continental SMP adds a 16.6-metre wingspan and high-lift devices for improved takeoff and landing performance on short or unprepared runways. It offers a reduced minimum mission speed of 70 knots to support target-area persistence.
The Sentinel SMP remains the most advanced variant in the series, offering customisable ISR configurations. Standard features include dual sensor hatches, mission power and inverter systems, fully certified consoles and racks, and a modern Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite with mission monitor. Configurations support up to five operators plus two pilots, with options for medevac, cargo and skydiving.
Both new variants retain the P2012's 9–11 seat cabin, low operating costs, and mission flexibility.
