B-N advances production as Islander full build returns to Isle of Wight

The company has passed the halfway point in building the first fully UK-assembled Islander, with workforce expansion and facility upgrades supporting reshored production plans.

Britten-Norman, manufacturer of the Islander aircraft, has reached a milestone in its programme to bring full aircraft production to its Bembridge facility on the Isle of Wight. The company has now completed more than 50 per cent of the first UK-built Islander’s assembly, supported by new investment, workforce growth and modernised facilities.

Previously, major assemblies were manufactured overseas before final assembly in the UK. The new line at Bembridge marks the return of full aircraft manufacturing to the UK. Wing assembly is expected to finish later this year, with final assembly set for early 2026 and first delivery in spring 2026.

“This milestone marks the excellent progress by our team in relocating the Islander’s production to Bembridge,” says Grahame Stone, commercial director of Britten-Norman. “By bringing the full build to the UK, we are strengthening our capability and ensuring we can deliver new aircraft efficiently for operators worldwide.”

Since announcing reshoring plans in 2023, Britten-Norman has invested in technologies including CNC equipment and grown its workforce by more than 40 per cent in 12 months. Alongside new-build progress, it is working to improve parts availability and service.

Demand remains strong, with confirmed orders and Letters of Intent already secured. Almost 1,300 Islanders have been delivered since the type entered service, supporting passenger, cargo, surveillance and special mission roles worldwide.
