HAL expands Nashik capacity with Tejas Mk1A and HTT-40 lines

The Nashik division has begun serial production of the Tejas Mk1A fighter and HTT-40 trainer, reinforcing India’s commitment to indigenous aircraft manufacturing.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has opened the third production line for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A and the second for the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) at its Nashik site. The first Tejas Mk1A built at the facility has also been completed.

The expansion marks another step in India’s drive towards full defence self-reliance. HAL’s role in developing and producing indigenous aircraft has been key to transforming the country’s defence manufacturing landscape.

India’s annual defence production has grown to Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with exports surpassing Rs 25,000 crore. The government aims to reach Rs 3 lakh crore in production and Rs 50,000 crore in exports by 2029, with HAL expected to play a major part in achieving these targets.

HAL chairman and managing director Dr DK Sunil says, “HAL’s Nashik Division’s capacity to produce indigenous advanced fighters in addition to Su-30MKI has added momentum to our production efforts.” He adds that the new lines have created around 1,000 jobs and strengthened collaboration with over 40 industry partners.

The Tejas Mk1A line can produce eight aircraft annually, taking HAL’s total capacity to 24 aircraft per year, while the HTT-40 line increases trainer output and supports the wider aerospace ecosystem.
