The GEK800 engine underwent successful altitude, durability and limits testing at Purdue’s Zucrow Laboratories, marking the first test at the recently expanded ZL9 facility.

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions and GE Aerospace have completed a series of altitude, durability and limits tests on the GEK800 jet engine. Designed for next generation unmanned aerial systems and collaborative combat aircraft, the 800-lb engine has achieved a key milestone following an intensive test schedule at Purdue University’s Maurice J. Zucrow Laboratories.

“Successfully completing altitude testing marks a major milestone in the GEK800 engine program and demonstrates the strength of our partnership with GE Aerospace, AFRL, and Purdue University's Zucrow Laboratories,” says Stacey Rock, President of Kratos Turbine Technologies. “This collaboration has been instrumental in advancing the engine's development, validating its performance, and accelerating its path toward production. The tests expanded the altitude envelope, identified rotor speed limits and validated system boundaries. It also marked the first test at the newly upgraded ZL9 facility, where the team completed over 50 engine starts. The programme is supported by the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Office of Naval Research, further demonstrating a coordinated approach to propulsion readiness.
