Beehive advances Frenzy with full-envelope high-altitude tests

Tests at a government facility in Ohio demonstrated successful ignition, operation and durability, paving the way for flight trials in 2026.

Beehive Industries has completed high-altitude testing of its 200 lbf Frenzy engine, keeping the programme on schedule for flight testing in early 2026. The campaign was carried out at a government facility in Ohio and confirmed the engine’s readiness across the full flight envelope. Beehive says this marks another milestone in the programme and highlights its ability to quickly develop propulsion systems for uncrewed aerial defence.

“The milestone confirms Frenzy’s readiness for flight integration,” says David Kimball, Chief Technology Officer at Beehive Industries. “In less than a year, we’ve gone from concept to proven high-altitude performance — and we’re doing it ahead of schedule because of the talented and determined team at Beehive. Frenzy is now flight-ready, and our production system is ready to scale alongside it.”

The results from the campaign included successful ignition and operation across the flight envelope, rapid acceleration, and turbine temperatures and fuel consumption better than predicted. The engine also showed a “like new” condition after a full mission-life runtime.

Beehive’s facilities in Denver, Cincinnati and Knoxville are increasing capacity in preparation for production. The engine is backed by a $12.46 million USAF/UDRI contract and supports future UAS with thrust between 100 and 300 lbf.
