Airbus expands in Tianjin with second A320 assembly line

The improved Tianjin facility increases Airbus’ global final assembly capacity and supports its plan to build 75 A320 Family aircraft each month by 2027.

Airbus has opened a second Final Assembly Line (FAL) for A320 Family aircraft in Tianjin, China, following an agreement signed in April 2023 with the Tianjin Free Trade Zone Investment Company and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. Preparations for the first aircraft are underway, with full operations planned for early 2026.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury says: “We welcome the addition of Tianjin’s second line to our global production system, as it provides us with the necessary flexibility and capacity to deliver on our plan to assemble 75 A320 Family aircraft per month in 2027. Over the past 40 years of our presence here in the country, we have come a long way in establishing trustful partnerships with the China civil aviation community and we look forward to writing the next chapters of our future together.”

The new line will boost production close to customers in China and beyond. It joins Airbus’ global network of ten FALs, including four in Hamburg, two in Toulouse, two in Mobile and now two in Tianjin. The site uses renewable electricity, reclaimed water and geothermal energy to support Airbus’ sustainability roadmap.

The first Tianjin FAL opened in 2008 and has delivered more than 780 A320 Family aircraft. As Airbus celebrates 40 years of cooperation with China’s aviation sector in 2025, the new line reinforces its long-term commitment and confidence in the Chinese market.
