Bombardier acquires MHI Canada Aerospace assets

The deal will bring MHICA's 750 employees and aerostructure manufacturing capabilities into Bombardier's operations, subject to regulatory approval.

Bombardier is set to acquire the assets of MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. (MHICA), the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries aerostructures operation based in Mississauga, Ontario, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close later this year.

The acquisition brings MHICA's aerostructure manufacturing capabilities and its approximately 750 employees into Bombardier's operations, adding to the group's in-house component and aircraft assembly expertise. MHI will work with Bombardier on an orderly transition and will provide transitional support for an interim period after closing to maintain continuity for MHICA's employees and the Mississauga operations.

MHICA has operated as one of Canada's aerostructures manufacturers, supplying components used across Bombardier's aircraft programmes. MHI is to remain committed to the commercial aerospace and defence sectors, maintaining a presence in Canada through its other business activities following the sale. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
