Production of the rugged 3U VPX compute platform has started at Nextek in Huntsville, Alabama, moving it from a build-to-order to a build-to-stock model.
Kontron has begun the first US production of its rugged VX307H 3U VPX compute platform at Nextek, in Huntsville, Alabama. Customers can choose a VX307H built in the USA with Global Components.
The move responds to defence-industry demand for greater supply-chain resilience, faster delivery and US-based support. With US production, Kontron is shifting the VX307H from a build-to-order model to build-to-stock, improving product availability and helping customers get boards faster.
Stephanie Perdue, Director of Products North America at Kontron, says: “Defence customers are asking for greater supply-chain resilience, faster availability and closer access to support. Bringing VX307H production to the US directly addresses those needs while expanding our domestic VPX manufacturing capabilities.”
At Nextek, VX307H production spans PCB assembly through final assembly and test. The Huntsville operation serves high-reliability aerospace and defence manufacturing with AS9100 and ISO 9001 certifications, ITAR registration, IPC workmanship standards, traceability and advanced testing capabilities.
Dan Meeks, President of Nextek, adds: “Building the VX307H in Huntsville gives customers a direct path from manufacturing and testing through long-term support. Our high-reliability manufacturing and testing capabilities are well suited to the demands of mission-critical defence electronics.”
The VX307H is a rugged 3U VPX platform based on Intel Xeon D-2700/2800 processors, with up to 20 cores, up to 100 Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe Gen4 and a hardware root of trust. Designed in accordance with SOSA requirements, it targets sensor fusion, command and control, autonomous systems and 5G tactical-edge computing.
The VX307H is the first product in a broader expansion of Kontron’s US VPX manufacturing strategy, with the VX3060 and VX30101 planned to follow. Kontron is presenting the capability at AUSA 2026 in Washington, DC, where it was unveiled on the show’s opening day.
