Two years after its cornerstone was laid, the 12,000sq m Campsas facility has become the largest industrial investment in Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS’s history.

Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS has opened its facility dedicated to aerospace heat transfer equipment at its Campsas site near Toulouse, France, two years after laying the cornerstone.

With more than 40 million euros invested and 12,000m sq of additional space, it is the largest industrial investment the company has ever made. The project doubles the site’s floor space and is intended to meet the ramp-up demands of current programmes while preparing for the next generation of aircraft.

The facility brings together surface treatment lines, a brazing application robot, brazing furnaces, welding equipment, inspection systems and a spacer-forming press designed by Liebherr. The Campsas site will have nearly 400 employees by the end of 2026.

A statement from the executive management of Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS says: “With this new centre of excellence, we are strengthening our industrial capabilities to support the ramp-up of current programmes while preparing the technologies and expertise that will contribute to future generations of aircraft. This investment gives us the means to meet our customers' expectations both today and tomorrow.”

Liebherr-Aerospace has been established in Campsas since 2001, gradually expanding its precision machining operations there. The site houses the production and repair of aerospace heat transfer equipment, a major part of the environmental control and thermal management systems developed by the company. The transfer of operations from Toulouse to Campsas, the installation of equipment and the ramp-up of the site involved numerous departments and trades while maintaining continuity in production and deliveries to customers.

Heat transfer equipment is indispensable for conditioning and pressurising cabin air as well as for cooling equipment. It is expected to play an increasingly important role in energy management and heat dissipation aboard future aircraft.

Liebherr-Aerospace is also preparing future production methods through DIGIFab, a collaborative project supported by the DGAC (French Civil Aviation Authority) as part of CORAC (Council for Civil Aeronautical Research), aimed at accelerating the digitalisation and automation of heat transfer equipment manufacturing.

The building also features optimised workstations, a company cafeteria, a gym, a multipurpose room and facilities for the local workers’ council. The project is supported by the Occitanie Region and the Adour-Garonne Water Agency.
