Radiant adds fuel level computer to calibrate non-linear fuel tanks

The innovative box helps aircraft owners calibrate irregular or circular fuel tanks, providing a linear fuel level from a fuel tank that is not linear. It acts as an ‘interposer’ between tank, fuel probe and instrument display.

Radiant Technology has unveiled a Fuel Level Computer (FLC), which provides a linear indication of calibrated fuel remaining in a tank. This innovative little box helps aircraft owners calibrate irregular or circular fuel tanks, providing a linear fuel level from a fuel tank that is in no way linear. It acts as an ‘interposer’ between the tank, fuel probe and instrument display.

For calibration, five buttons are set at 0, quarter, half, three-quarter, and full levels. The input into the FLC may be any standard 0 to 5 volt fuel probe or any standard resistive sender. The output of the FLC is always a standard 0 to 5 volt value, compatible with almost all fuel gauges currently on the market. Furthermore, the FLC includes a five-point LED fuel level gauge, which illuminates red when the tank remains below 25% of fuel.

Radiant also introduces a Fuel Pressure Sensor, which inserts into any 1/8 or ¼ NPT fitting in a fuel tank. This fuel pressure sensor detects differential pressure between 0 and 1.5 bars of pressure and provides an output ranging from 0.5 to 4.5 volts. It is powered by five volts. This fuel pressure sensor is ideal for users who wish to connect a pressure sensing fuel probe directly to an EFIS. The EFIS then carries out the calibration of the probe. (Radiant does not manufacture EFIS devices.)

James Wiebe, CEO of Radiant Technology, explained, “Our new FLC allows calibration of any tank shape, using virtually any fuel probe. It provides the benefit of fuel tank calibration for oddly shaped tanks. It is an affordable option that helps solve tank and probe calibration issues. Although not designed for panel mounting, it does include a five-point LED fuel gauge. The output of the FLC may be attached to any standard fuel gauge. We also make a fuel pressure sensor available separately.”
