Engineers trialled a joint payload with thermal and 150MP visual cameras, alongside data-relay ground repeaters, during a 12,000 metre flight over Abu Dhabi.

UAVOS has completed a successful test flight of Mira Aerospace’s ApusNeo 18 High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS), providing full engineering and technical support. One of the key aims was to test the jointly developed optoelectronic, gyro-stabilised aircraft POD by collecting high-resolution imagery from altitudes between 3,000 and 12,000 metres. The test, conducted in Abu Dhabi, lasted for 48 hours.

The POD captured geolocated imagery with a ground sample distance of up to two metres. It includes an automatic temperature control system that maintains operation at temperatures as low as -70°C and supports radio communication over 100 km. The gimbal enables a ±90° observation range with precise angular control. The total payload weighs 3.6 kg and features an aerodynamic design.

The imaging system uses a GSTiR thermal camera and a Phase One 150-megapixel aerial imaging camera that transmits distortion-free images for use in mapping.

UAVOS CEO Aliaksei Stratsilatau says: “The successful cooperation with Mira Aerospace reflects our commitment to continuously advancing the capabilities of both companies. We also continue to work toward our ultimate goal of leveraging the HAPS platform for multiple applications, including mobile connectivity, border monitoring, mapping, forest fire detection, and emergency response.”

The test flight also trialled a data-relay network using ground modem repeaters with 200 km coverage to prepare for future commercial flights in Europe. Aliaksei adds: “The data-relay station trials were conducted in preparation for upcoming commercial flights in Europe, planned for the coming months.”
