Volatus launches Condor XL to meet heavy-lift drone demand

Flight testing of the 180kg capable platform had been set for Autumn as Canada increases defence spending and focuses on sovereign tech development.

Volatus Aerospace has introduced the Condor XL, a heavy-lift drone capable of carrying up to 180kg over 200km. The platform builds on Drone Delivery Canada's original Condor model and draws on Volatus’ helicopter expertise, in-house avionics and unmanned systems integration.

Flight testing is scheduled for autumn 2025, with commercial deployments targeted for 2026. The company positions the Condor XL as a dual-use solution for both logistics and defence operations, aligning with the Canadian government’s emphasis on aerospace innovation, critical infrastructure and sovereign manufacturing.

According to Lucintel, the global heavy-lift drone market could reach $1.4 billion by 2030, driven by demand across logistics, construction and emergency operations.
