The Decatur Plant has operation lines from precursor to carbon fibre and is one of three Toray manufacturing facilities alongside Tacoma, Washington, and Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Resin and fibre experts target future aerospace applications

The collaboration is intended to improve the supply chain by uniting Specialty's boron fibre with Toray's carbon fibres and resin systems including toughened epoxies, cyanate esters, bismaleimides and polyimides.

13 July Overair's Butterfly prototype with Toray T1100/3960 carbon fiber/epoxy prepreg. The prepreg provides high stiffness and strength for its airframe and propulsion units.

Toray's prepreg system is formulated for high-performance aerospace applications where the optimal ratio of strength to modulus properties is critical. It allows for autoclave and out-of-autoclave curing.

Joby selects Toray composites for eVTOL project

Joby Aviation has spent more than a decade developing its aircraft and plans to bring it into commercial operation as early as 2023. The VTOL machine will be crafted from Toray carbon fibre composite materials.

Thermoplastic honeycomb for interiors passes muster

The parts are less time-consuming to make, and more sustainable than the traditional thermoset materials used which are not recyclable. EconCore, Toray and Bostik combined to create the new material.
