Tests of updated MiG-31 fighter-interceptor with Perm D-30F6 aero-engines (developed by Aviadvigatel Open Stock Co.) were underwent in Russia.
The updated aircraft is capable of catching flying objects of Stealth type, including those flying at extreme low altitudes.
As the RF Air Forces' Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Mikhailov said, the completion of the tests opens new horizons for the Air Forces of Russia and makes it possible to re-equip front interceptors.
The successful test results have confirmed the opinion that the basic MiG-31 fighter has great potential for updating. The unique parameters of the aircraft are mostly supported by the propulsion system developed by Perm engine builders.
Additional Information
D-30F6 aero-engine is the first Russian bypass engine with afterburner and variable jet nozzle.
RED-3048 electronic control that was superior to similar systems installed on the American aircraft F-14 and F-15 was for the first time used in the engine.
Now the specialists of Aviadvigatel are making efforts on the supervising D-30F6 aero-engine service in the RF Air Forces as well as on improving the engine operation and life parameters.
The modifications of D-30F6 engines are installed in the propulsion system of Su-47 "Berkut" experimental fighter of the fifth generation as well as in the propulsion system of M-55 "Geophyzika" experimental high-altitude aircraft.
