Pratt & Whitney Canada is developing the PW306D engine to power the new Citation Sovereign from Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. company. The announcement was made today by David Van der Wee, vice-president, marketing, P&WC, following Cessna's announcement of the new Citation Sovereign during the National Business Aviation Association's 65th annual meeting and convention in Orlando, Florida. P&WC is a United Technologies Corp. company .

"We are excited to continue to build on the strong legacy of the Citation Sovereign with Cessna," said Van der Wee. "We have a relationship with Cessna that dates back more than four decades and the development of the PW306D for the new Cessna Citation Sovereign is another example of our long-term commitment to bring new products to market."

The new Sovereign is an impressive upgrade of the already popular business jet from Cessna. Upgraded with the Garmin G5000 avionics, and luxurious new interior, with customized ambient lighting and the most advanced cabin management system available, the new Sovereign will have increased range to 3,000 nautical miles opening travel to more city pairings in unmatched comfort. This versatile business jet can be configured to carry people, cargo or both.

P&WC began work on the PW306D in early 2011, improving the performance by incorporating advanced materials and enhanced aerodynamics. The engine, at a maximum take-off thrust of 5,814 pounds (ISA+17ºC), provides an increase in thrust and an overall SFC improvement over the PW306C. In addition to the performance enhancements, the engine control system will be fully integrated with the aircraft's new auto-throttle system. Both the aircraft and the engine are planned to certify in the early part of 2013.

At NBAA in 2011, Cessna announced that the PW306D engine, the latest addition to the PW300 family, had been selected to power the new mid-sized business jet, the Citation Latitude. The Latitude will have a new wide body cabin with space for two pilots and up to eight passengers. The first flight of the Latitude is planned for early 2014 with FAA certification and entry into service expected in 2015.
