RUAG to build engine turbine case for A400M

The RUAG technology group has signed a contract with Snecma, the leading French aircraft engine manufacturer, to manufacture and supply the engine turbine cases for the A400M, the new European military transport aircraft.

The turbine cases for the A400M will be built at RUAG Aerospace's site in Geneva. They will be made from Inconel, an extremely tough alloy capable of withstanding the high temperatures that occur downstream of aeroengine combustion chambers.

The A400M military transporter is being developed by Airbus Military. To date orders for 195 aircraft have been received. Series production is set to commence in 2008. The order is worth tens of millions to RUAG.

RUAG has been working for Snecma for many years, primarily for the US market. It manufactures engine parts for the Boeing 737 and, more recently, 747 and 767 civilian airliners.
