Barco announces certified avionics Control Display Units with modular system architecture

At this year's MAKS Airshow, visualization specialist Barco has announced a brand-new version of its popular Control Display Unit CDMS, featuring a modular open system architecture. Thanks to this unique MOSArt architecture, customers can develop and load their own application on the versatile CDMS host platform.

Barco's new CDU has been certified to level C on the Tupolev 204/214 and Ilyushin 96 platforms in cooperation with the National Institute of Aircraft Equipment NIIAO. "Thanks to the unique MOSArt Modular Open System Architecture, software integration on Barco's CDMS is very easy," explains NIIAO Chief Designer Alexander Evgenov. "It allowed us to develop and load our own application on the Barco hardware, which gives us maximum flexibility."

Barco's CMDS-2MT, which will be demonstrated at this year's MAKS Airshow in hall H, stand 4-15, inherits the proven technology of the widely successful CDMS, and improves it with the flexibility of an open development platform. The modular MOSArt platform is based on a computing kernel compliant with ARINC 653, the specification for space and time partitioning of multiple applications sharing a single processor. With MOSArt, every partition can have a different criticality level, up to DO-178B Level A, which allows for a minimal certification cost. The default real-time operating system is VxWorks PSC from Wind River Systems.
