COMAC Additive Manufacturing Center unveiled in Beijing

The Additive Manufacturing Center of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) was unveiled at Beijing Aeronautical Science and Technology Research Institute (BASTRI) on July 20th, 2017, aiming to further improve the advanced manufacturing technology, enhance the application research, verification and promotion capacity of additive manufacturing technology, and strengthen the technology innovation and application capacity of the company.

Mr. Wu Guanghui, Vice President of COMAC, attended the ceremony and unveiled the Additive Manufacturing Center. Related officers of Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission attended the ceremony.

Mr. Wu Guanghui expressed gratitude to Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission for its long-term support to COMAC. As for the next phase of work, Mr. Wu Guanghui pointed out that the Additive Manufacturing Center should accelerate the establishment of management team, professional work team and management operating system in line with the function orientation requirements approved by COMAC, and actually play the role of responsible subject for the development and capacity building of COMAC's additive manufacturing professional technology; as the administrative sponsoring unit of the Additive Manufacturing Center, BASTRI should strongly support the work of the Additive Manufacturing Center; all units should coordinate with COMAC Additive Manufacturing Center in the research and resource planning of additive manufacturing and application technology to jointly promote the development and capacity enhancement of additive manufacturing and application technology.

It is reported that additive manufacturing technology a complex and advanced technology that integrates various professional technologies such as structure optimal design, material, manufacturing process and subsequent treatment, embodies the close combination of information network technology with advanced material technology and digitized manufacturing technology, will promote the disruptive change in the design of complex aircraft structure and the manufacturing of parts, and is an important symbol of the advancement of aerospace manufacturing technology. COMAC Additive Manufacturing Center, as the responsible subject for the development and capacity building of COMAC's additive manufacturing professional technology as well as the extension organization of management function of additive manufacturing technology application capacity, will assist COMAC in the application research, capacity building, resource management and utilization of additive manufacturing technology.
