Lufthansa Technik's Guideline now available on Boeing aircraft

Lufthansa Technik is now offering Guideline® ColourFit, the non-electric floor path marking system, also for Boeing aircraft. The product has been certified for the Boeing 777 and 747-8. For Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier aircraft the innovative system is already available.

"We have succeeded in convincing the world's most important aircraft manufacturers of the outstanding properties of Guideline®," says Christian Lierow, head of the Guideline® product team at Lufthansa Technik. "Guideline has already been installed in four new aircraft. Airlines can now order Guideline® for the Boeing 777 and 747-8 types post-delivery as well and thus benefit from the advantages of the system across their entire fleet."

The elaborate certification process included the requirement to demonstrate that over 60 inexperienced subjects could successively find their nearest exit in the aircraft in the dark, relying on Guideline®. This expensive and time-consuming test was overseen by the FAA and EASA and took over ten hours to perform. Boeing has already installed Guideline® in 777s for several airlines, while 747-8 launch customer Lufthansa has also ordered Guideline® for its new aircraft. "Lufthansa passengers will be able to find their bearings in the usual way in the 747-8 as well," says Christian Lierow.

The non-electrical system can be integrated into any non-textile flooring material on board. Guideline® ColourFit works on the basis of photoluminescence and leads the way to the emergency exits in the event that the cabin lighting should fail. The system only needs 15 to 30 minutes of cabin light to accumulate sufficient energy for a 15-hour flight. At the moment 15 different colors are available, enabling optimal integration into every cabin design.
