Meggitt wins multi-million dollar sole-source contract for Boeing 777X cargo smoke detection system

Meggitt PLC, a leading international company specialising in high performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and energy markets, has won a sole-source contract from The Boeing Company to provide the Cargo Smoke Detection System (CSDS) for the Boeing 777X aircraft.

Designed for cargo zones and avionics bays, the CSDS is a complete system comprising the advanced Meggitt smoke detector and controller solutions selected on a number of aircraft platforms currently in service and under development.

Production will start in 2017 from Meggitt's facility in Simi Valley, California to meet entry into service in 2019.

The Boeing 777X has attracted over 300 orders and commitments from customers including Lufthansa, Etihad, Qatar, Emirates, ANA and Cathay Pacific.
