Microfiltrex wins filter contract for Airbus fuel tank inerting systems

15/02/2007

Press releaseIssued by Porvair Filtration Group Ltd.

Microfiltrex have signed a supply agreement expected to be worth $3m over seven years with Parker Hannifin Corporation to provide aerospace filtration systems for Parker's onboard aircraft fuel tank inerting system to be fitted to new Airbus passenger jets. Microfiltrex were selected by Parker for its extensive experience with aerospace filtration applications and already have agreements in place with Parker for similar systems for Boeing production aircraft. Supply of the Airbus filtration systems to Parker is expected to commence in 2008.

The elimination of flammable fuel vapours in commercial aircraft fuel tanks is one of the US National Transportation Safety Board's top priorities. Parker's lightweight onboard aircraft fuel tank inerting system addresses this issue and can be easily fitted within existing aircraft designs. The system removes oxygen from its source of engine bleed air, delivering nitrogen-enriched air into the aircraft fuel tanks thereby reducing the risk of fuel tank flammability. The Microfiltrex filtration system ensures that the source of engine bleed air delivered into the inerting system is free from particulate and liquid droplets.

Microfiltrex is a division of the Porvair Filtration Group, a specialist porous media and filtration company, with expertise in a wide range of materials and many years experience in filtration. The Porvair Filtration Group designs and manufactures high performance filters and filtration systems for a wide range of industries from aerospace and defence to the biosciences, chemical process and power generation.
