RUAG: Rear fuselage for Bombardier Aircraft

RUAG strengthens its partnership with the Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier. After its approval as an authorised Service Centre for the business jets "Challenger" and "Global Express", RUAG now also manufactures new rear fuselages for the aircraft fleet Bombardier (CRJ) 700 / 900 and 1000.

For years, RUAG Aerospace's business unit "Aerostructures" has been manufacturing parts for numerous well-known aircraft manufacturers in Emmen, Geneva and Oberpfaffenhofen. The know-how in this field will enable RUAG to undertake the manufacturing for the rear fuselage for Bombardier aircraft of the CRJ700/900 and 1000 series. The CRJ series concerns business jets with a seating capacity of 75, 85 and 105 seats.

The production order for the Bombardier rear fuselage includes the procurement and manufacturing of individual parts and components, the subgroup assembly, the final assembly and painting. Half of the individual parts are manufactured by RUAG in its workshops; the other half is additionally procured from international suppliers. RUAG will deliver the first rear fuselages in 2009; starting from 2011 it has planned a delivery of more than 90 pieces every year. The order requires the employment of some 100 persons at RUAG.
