USAF expands Boeing’s Grey Wolf order to 38

An additional contract for four helicopters and sustainment followed closely behind an earlier eight-aircraft deal worth $173 million.

Boeing has secured a second MH-139A Grey Wolf production contract in five months, adding four aircraft and sustainment support for the U.S. Air Force. This brings the total value of recent contracts to over $262 million. In September, the company was awarded $173 million for eight aircraft.

“The quick succession of contracts demonstrates that the U.S. Air Force is all in on bringing the MH-139A capability to the warfighter as quickly as possible,” says Azeem Khan, director, MH-139 program. “Our team is dedicated to delivering and maintaining these aircraft, driven by a commitment to excellence, where safety and quality are our top priorities.”

A total of 38 aircraft are now under contract, including 12 from a low-rate initial production award in 2023. Boeing has delivered 21 helicopters so far.

Based on the Leonardo AW139 and enhanced with military equipment by Boeing, the MH-139A supports missions including patrol, search and rescue, and transport. The programme sustains over 1,000 jobs in the Philadelphia region and beyond.
