GE invests $225m in New York research centre

Site improvement projects are expected to begin immediately at the research hub, which will add 75 full-time research, engineering and trade jobs over five years.

GE Aerospace is investing $225 million to modernise the GE Aerospace Research Centre in Niskayuna, New York. The State of New York has also committed $8.4 million in tax credits through Empire State Development (ESD) to the project, with Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority contributing additional local incentives valued at $5.3 million.

Approximately two-thirds of the investment will go towards infrastructure improvements, with the remainder dedicated to advanced research equipment and technology. The project will create 75 full-time jobs over five years, including a mix of research and engineering roles and trade positions, as well as short-term construction employment.

The upgrade will also support execution of advanced technology projects with partners in both academia and the federal sector, particularly Department of Energy and Department of War projects funded through Congressional appropriations.

The GE Aerospace Research Centre has served as a technology development hub for more than 75 years. Its work spans AI, autonomy, robotics, advanced materials, future manufacturing, hypersonic propulsion and hybrid electric flight.

GE Aerospace expects to begin site improvement projects immediately and research operations at Niskayuna will continue with minimal disruption throughout construction.
