Kopin contract lifts helmet display orders to $13.5m

Defence contractor placed another order for US-made pilot displays after choosing Kopin systems for multiple aircraft platforms earlier this year.

Kopin Corporation has secured a multi-year $7.5 million contract to supply microdisplays for pilot Helmet Mounted Display Systems featuring augmented reality capability. This brings its total pilot helmet-related orders for 2025 to $13.5 million. The buyer is a Tier 1 US Department of Defense prime contractor.

The microdisplays will be built in Kopin’s Class 10 cleanroom facility in the United States, with each undergoing extensive quality control. The systems are designed to help pilots access mission-critical data while enhancing situational awareness and system interaction under high stress conditions.

Kopin says its microdisplays are used in helmet systems across multiple aircraft types. SVP of business development and strategy Bill Maffucci says: “Our microdisplays continue to be the solution of choice for pilot helmet programs across multiple aircraft platforms because they provide our warfighters with the reliability and performance needed to achieve over-match against our adversaries.”

He adds: “The ability of a nation to use aircraft and AR enabled pilot Helmet Mounted Display Systems to achieve its military objectives during combat missions, reconnaissance and surveillance, command and control is of the utmost importance.”
